Orbs are the most commonly photographed anomalies by either paranormal teams as well as amateur photographers. An orb is considered to be energy contained within a sphere; a sphere is believed to the most basic and common containment structure of energy.AS I have stated in previous articles, that although I love photography and although we take on average around 200 to 300 photos per investigation photos are perhaps not the best method to collect evidence of orbs or even the paranormal in general. Photographs alone simply do not provide us with enough information about the object that has been photographed, at least not to the extent that video would. Orbs are basically broken down into two basic types the first, are natural orbs these orbs are produced by natural objects present in the environment. These orbs are typically caused by dust, moisture such as frost, dew and even fog. Natural orbs are not of paranormal origin however; these orbs are the photographed type of orb and are often mistaken for a ghost or spirit. The causes of these orbs have been studied for quite some time, and what we discovered was that a digital camera with a flash illuminates airborne particles created by the flash and forces small particles of dust or moisture to appear much larger than they really are. We still use the standard digital camera with flash but we also incorporate a deep infrared camera as well as a full spectrum camera. These cameras do not use an illuminating flash but instead use an infrared flash which dramatically cuts down on the number of natural orbs appearing in our photos. The second type orb is often called ghost orbs or spirit orbs and is considered by most to be paranormal. This type orb ranges in size from as small as a dime to as large as a saucer, there are also orbs which have no illuminating properties at all, and they resemble a tadpole with almost the same shape and size complete with a small tail attached. These type orbs often attempt to make direct contact with people, they also seem to be more aggressive than your typical orb. Whenever they do make direct contact with people they can bring about emotional changes within that person, such as the feeling of sadness and even anger, they can leave a person with a feeling of being overwhelmed or even invaded. These type orbs that attempt to make direct contact and also bring about emotional changes in a person are almost always negative. In closing, there are skeptics who dismiss orbs altogether, I do agree that photos and videos should be viewed with some skepticism however, there are some orbs primarily caught on video which some level of intelligence and also curiosity in us and what we are doing. In my opinion to group all orbs together as non-paranormal is a not only nonscientific but also irresponsible and it short changes the field of paranormal research. I do not think the debate or curiosity and even enthusiasm about orbs will disappear any time soon, for as long as paranormal investigators continue to capture these anomalies on video and also photographers continue to capture strange balls of light on digital cameras the debate about orbs will continue.
